As Linton Middle School Principal Sandy Barker prepares to retire, the Penn Hills School District is celebrating a remarkable career dedicated to education and leadership.

With more than 30 years in education, Barker has made a lasting impact on countless students, families and colleagues throughout her career. Since becoming principal of Linton Middle School in 2019, she has led the school with compassion and a deep belief in the power of relationships.

Barker said her journey into education was inspired by the teachers who supported her through difficult times in her own life. Their encouragement and guidance left a lasting impression, motivating her to pursue a career where she could make a similar difference for others.

“I had many teachers who helped me through some difficult life events, and I wanted to pay it forward,” Barker said.

Her path to Penn Hills was influenced by family friend and educator Ron Scott, whose connection to the district helped introduce her to the Penn Hills community.

When reflecting on her time as principal, Barker said one aspect of the role has been especially meaningful.

“Without a doubt, the most rewarding part of my time as principal has been the relationships I’ve built with students and families,” she said. “Those connections have been the heart of everything I do.”

As she looks ahead to retirement, Barker is eager to embrace the opportunities that come with this new chapter.

“I am most looking forward to spending more time with my family. Those are the moments I value most and am excited to enjoy even more,” she said.

While she may be stepping away from her role, Barker’s impact on the Linton community will stand. Her leadership and dedication have helped shape the school in meaningful ways, leaving a legacy that will be felt for years to come.

“Being part of the Linton community has been so valuable to me, and I am deeply grateful for the relationships and experiences I will always cherish,” Barker said.

The Penn Hills School District extends its heartfelt gratitude to Sandy Barker for her years of service and wishes her all the best in retirement. Her final day with the district will be May 8, 2026.
