Future Healthcare Heroes in Action
In September, Linton Middle School launched its partnership with the Minority Pre-Nursing Institute (MPI).
Through this program, students have gained foundational nursing knowledge and hands-on experience across various topics, ranging from vital signs to complex human body systems.
Most recently, students explored the nervous system, examining both its central and peripheral components. They practiced assessing all 12 cranial nerves and learned to identify the signs and symptoms of a stroke.
Additionally, students studied the circulatory system, delving into its key components, including the heart, arteries, capillaries, and blood. They expanded their understanding by learning about different blood types and applying their knowledge through sample NCLEX questions.
Students also focused on the body's largest organ - the skin. They created models of its layers, cultured bacteria, and examined samples under a microscope. The gastrointestinal system was another area of study, where students connected lessons to real-world healthcare scenarios.
The MPI fosters an engaging and supportive environment where students collaborate, share perspectives, and build confidence in their abilities. With guidance from dedicated instructors and interactive learning opportunities, Linton Middle School students are developing the skills and enthusiasm necessary for future nursing careers.
This partnership reflects the district's commitment to preparing students for meaningful and impactful career pathways. We look forward to seeing these aspiring healthcare professionals continue to grow and excel!
