Linton Middle School's Student Council organized and led a successful campus-wide cleanup to improve the school's environment, promote health and safety, and foster teamwork and community involvement.

Linton Middle School Student Council members recently took the initiative to lead a campus-wide cleanup. The project was designed to promote the health and safety of students and staff while also enhancing the overall learning environment.

The cleanup began after school, with students gathering in the cafeteria to receive their supplies, including gloves, masks, trash bags, brooms, and rakes. Once equipped, the students divided into three teams to cover different areas of the school grounds—the front, back, and sides of the building. They worked thoroughly, cleaning often-overlooked spaces such as beneath the bleachers, behind shrubs, and up the hillside.

As they cleaned, students bonded over music and captured the experience with photos. Their energy and teamwork made the day not only productive but also enjoyable. The group was supported by parent chaperone Myesha Summers, mother of council member Summer Dougherty, as well as Ms. Bryant, who checked in with each team to ensure they had the supplies they needed.

The students' efforts did not go unnoticed. Teachers and parents at the school during the cleanup offered encouraging waves. Community members who were walking by stopped to commend the students for their service. The council also extends a special thank-you to Ms. Tracey Jasper, one of Linton's secretaries, for her help in organizing and distributing supplies.

The team that collected the most trash in just over an hour included Emma Musabyimana, Kindness Nchang, Jodelle Kouam Kouogang, Summer Dougherty, and Marlene Mefo Tiegoum. These students will be recognized with awards at the next Student Council meeting in appreciation of their commitment to keeping Linton clean.

At the end of the day, council members reflected on the experience and shared what the cleanup meant to them. It was a rewarding opportunity to give back to their school and build a stronger sense of community.
